Project Description: The project aims to establish a European network of written cultural heritage and its gradual expansion in order to strengthen awareness of European past and historical memory, and European countries cultures through the development of innovative strategies.
The majority of European archival institutions are the guardian of historical memory. All information in these archives constitute the basis of the identity of our continent, its countries and people cultures. Using these unique records, however in very limited. The project aims to offer a comprehensive European citizens easy access to their historical memory through the Internet.
The project focuses on the following objectives:
1. Expansion of the existing European network of cultural institutions (ICARUS) and progress in further digitisation and entry. The indexing of archives at a national level. Simultaneously, this move will promote intercultural dialogue and cooperation between institutions, which will be a substantial increase in the amount of digital content on the European archival portals (APEnet, Europeana).
2. Demonstrate best practice in the implementation of the project results through the development of common tools and use of historical digital libraries in universities, schools and education and training programs.
3. Regular forum to exchange knowledge and experience between individuals and institutions that will be involved in meetings, workshops, labor exchanges, training programs and conferences.
4. Audiences development, from the network and the general public - through the websites, on-line platform for communication, e-newsletters, radio and television broadcasting, advertising, newspapers and journals.
